When a local metal component manufacturer wanted to put their essential database to the test, Check-Tek used their business and technical skills to review the system and gave Directors peace of mind that their products would always be delivered ‘just in time’. Supplying metal components for the motor industry is an exact science for the company who have to ensure that parts are delivered on time and their stock levels are always 100% accurate. The company had developed an in-house database to forecast sales and purchase requirements, but asked Check-Tek for some expert input to ensure their system was providing the correct information.
Just in time
Motor manufacturers use the ‘just in time’ stock system and levy large fines on suppliers who do not meet deadlines, so the metal component manufacturer needed an accurate system to ensure their own stock requirements were met. The company’s in-house system recorded the future sales levels per product and calculated the component parts required for that product to plan purchase levels based on lead times. The Directors of the company were aware that this was not a standard system and to ensure the information was accurate, asked Check-Tek to audit the database and check the calculations.
Business and technical skills
Check-Tek experts used both their business and technical skills to firstly understand the business process and then dissect the database and follow the process. A database written by an individual can sometimes be difficult to interpret as each person stamps their own personality, or own way of fitting information together, into the system.
Passed the test
Once a thorough audit was complete, Check-Tek provided the company with a report on the system which showed that it was providing accurate information from which they could satisfy customers orders. The database passed the test and Check-Tek provided their client with confidence to use their system to benefit their customers.
